"Walkabout" is the tenth episode of Season 2 of Robin Hood and the 23rd episode of the series as a whole.

Plot Edit

The Sheriff—who, unbeknownst to absolutely everyone, has gone sleepwalking right into Sherwood Forest—is missing. The prince's inspector Sir Jasper is threatening to raze Nottingham to the ground unless he is found by sunset. A reluctant Gisborne (at Marian's urging) recruits Robin Hood to help search the forest. An army is already on its way to carry out Sir Jasper's orders.

Meanwhile, the sheriff has woke to find himself in the middle of the forest and has decided to make the most of this opportunity, trading his silk pajamas for the rags of a peasant and recruiting a pragmatic young peasant mother to help him find Robin's hideout, promising her all the riches he is sure are stored there. He disguises himself as an old blind man. When Djaq and Little John stumble across them, all pretending to be ill, little John abandons their mission of searching for the sheriff to help them. Against Djaq's protests, he blindfolds them and takes them to the secret camp. When Djaq leaves, Vaisey and the woman and her children knock Little John out and find a trunk of treasure—and, to the sheriff's glee, the Black Knights' pact Robin and Edward had stolen. However, Robin and Djaq return just in time to stop them from making their getaway.

As sunset grows nearer, a desperate Gisborne gives up on finding the sheriff in time and reverts to begging Marian to marry him so that she can escape with him. Will actually supports this, since Robin strictly instructed him to make sure Marian survived ("even if no one else does"), but she flatly refuses Gisborne and won't discuss it with Will. When she refuses to abandon Nottingham, Gisborne, instead of fleeing for his life, returns to the castle, making a bombastic entrance into the great hall where he declares, for all those assembled to hear, that if he must die, it "will be by [her] side." Marian appears surprised and delighted that he came back. He then asks her—again—to marry him, before the city is burned. Marian doesn't really get a chance to put in a word edgewise, for or against, because Robin returns an absolutely fuming Sheriff Vaisey to Nottingham and chaos ensues as Vaisey tries to hunt down Robin and lecture Sir Jasper on his idiocy at the same time.
