"Sheriff Got Your Tongue?" is the second episode of Season 1 of Robin Hood.

Plot[]

The Sheriff and Gisborne arrive to Locksley, demanding that the villagers tell them where Robin is. They threaten to cut out one tongue per hour if the villagers do not comply.

Meanwhile in Sherwood, Little John’s gang has Robin, Much and Allan tied to trees. John, Roy and the others go through their things. Once the outlaws are gone, Will arrives to set the others free. They follow the outlaws, and this time take them captive instead.

At Locksley Manor, two guards carry in Sir Guy’s things. A servant protests, still believing Robin will return. The guards joke about Robin’s status as an outlaw, and give him the nickname Robin of the Wood.

Robin and Much berate the outlaws for stealing from the poor, when the Sheriff is already taking everything from them. After Roy questions Robin’s own motives, Robin decides that he will stop the Sheriff. More outlaws show up, forcing Robin and the others to set their captives free. John finds out who Robin is, and knocks him out. The outlaws decide to take Robin to the Sheriff to cash the twenty pounds that have been promised as a reward.

Gisborne tells the villagers that he is going to be the Lord of Locksley, and eventually Earl of Huntingdon now that Robin is gone. As the outlaws approach, the Sheriff orders another tongue to be cut. The victim is Alice, John’s wife, who believes John to be dead. John sets Robin free so that he can save her. Robin tells the others to go and gives himself up. Robin is taken to Nottingham, where Marian witnesses his arrival.

By nightfall, the other outlaws have returned to the forest. Much wants to save Robin, and ends up arguing with the others. He decides to go to Nottingham alone. John speaks with Will and says that he will bring Alice to the forest. Will protests, saying that Alice can’t live in the forest.

As Robin is brought to the dungeons, a guard says that his nickname is Robin Wood. The jailer mishears the name, giving Robin the name Robin Hood.

Much goes to Knighton for help, but Edward and Marian refuse to directly help Robin. Edward promises to defend him in his trial, but believes this all to be the consequence of Robin’s own actions. Much tells them about the tongue-cutting at Locksley. He leaves, disappointed in Edward, and especially Marian.

At Locksley, John watches Alice’s son, also named John, play with a bow. He speaks with the boy, and finds out that he is the boy’s father, but doesn’t reveal his own identity. Little Little John is hopeful that things will get better now that Robin is back. John hides as Alice comes to look for her son. Later Alice sings him to sleep, and John listens outside.

The Sheriff goes to speak with Robin. He questions why Robin did not just kill him. He doesn’t believe Robin is as bloodthirsty as his reputation says he is.

Will and Roy fight in the forest about doing what is right. John shows up and interrupts them, announcing that they are all going to Nottingham.

Guy visits Marian at Knighton. He wants to change Locksley’s name to Gisborne. Marian finds out that Robin is not getting a trial.

Much tries to climb up a ladder to get over the castle wall, but the ladder is too short. He falls asleep after a barking dog forces him to stay on the ladder. At first light, the other outlaws arrive to help Much.

Marian goes to visit Robin, pretending to ask him about the location of a ring Robin received from her father. She is upset that Robin is acting foolishly, and ends up revealing that she is still hurt that Robin left her to go fight in the war. She gives Robin a dagger, but the rescue plan is interrupted as Much and the other outlaws barge in.

Outside, Robin asks the other outlaws to give him a few minutes to do something. He takes Roy with him, and the two dress up as guards while the others fight with the Sheriff’s men at the courtyard. The Sheriff is woken up by the commotion, and Robin comes into his room. He threatens the Sheriff and says that he is willing to kill the Sheriff if he ever harms innocent people. The Sheriff doesn’t believe him. One of the knocked-out guards wakes up, and Robin shoots him in the chest to prove a point. He takes the Sheriff to a window and forces him to apologise for his actions. Once the Sheriff realises Robin is gone, the fighting outside resumes.

The guard Robin shot was really Roy, who was wearing a wooden chest plate under the chainmail. He and Robin join the fight outside, and Marian watches the scene from a window. The outlaws escape, and Robin blows Marian a kiss.

The outlaws distribute money and food to their families and watch them from afar. In the forest, they gather around a campfire to live out their lives as outlaws.
