James was a Templar in King Richard's army who was secretly a spy for the Black Knights and a friend of Sheriff Vaisey. He helped in the assassination plot against Richard and assisted in the attempted execution of Lady Marian and Robin's band. After chasing the Black Knights to an unnamed town in the Holy Land, a fight breaks out between the now scattered opposing forces. While on a roof, James sneaked up on Robin and attempted to strangle him. Thankfully, Much came to Robin's rescue, kicked James off and then beheaded him.
