"Brothers in Arms" is the seventh episode of Season 1 of Robin Hood.

Plot[]

People at Locksley are selling their valuables to a man named Lucky George to get money to pay their taxes. The outlaws ambush George in the forest, and send him on his way. They’re confused by the fact that George seemingly had no money with him.

Soon after this they come across some villagers who are about to whip three men that had claimed to be thatchers but had ended up stealing from them instead. One of the thieves claims they are Robin Hood’s men, which amuses Robin and the rest of the gang. Allan recognises this man to be his brother, Tom. Once Robin’s identity is revealed to Tom, he begs for mercy and asks to join the gang. He explains that his friends have had their tongues cut out. Allan takes pity on his brother, and Robin makes the three men promise to actually thatch the villagers’ roof. One of the villagers, Megan, gives her daughter Eleri a silver necklace as an engagement gift.

Eleri and her fiancé go to Gisborne to ask for permission to marry. As payment, Gisborne takes Eleri’s necklace.

Lucky George goes to speak with the Sheriff, who ends up questioning why Robin seems to always be one step ahead of them. He comes to the conclusion that there must be a spy at the castle, and tells Gisborne to set a trap.

Gisborne gives Eleri’s necklace to Marian. While she’s still in the room, Gisborne tells his sergeant about a chest of silver and orders him to not have any guards accompany the chest as it’s being transported.

Will and Djaq spot Lucky George in Nettlestone. Thanks to the Sheriff’s help, he’s back in business, and people are selling their things to him in the hopes that Robin will just steal them back.

Marian and Robin meet in the forest. Robin recognises her necklace, and correctly guesses that it’s from Gisborne. He tells her that the necklace belongs to Eleri, and she gives it to him so that he can return it to the girl.

While Robin returns the necklace to Eleri, Tom and his friends sneak away from the outlaws’ camp. They go to Knighton and end up fighting Edward and Marian, who is disguised as the Nightwatchman. The other outlaws catch up to them and explain that Edward and Marian are their friends. Marian tells Robin about Gisborne’s plan regarding the silver.

Much and Robin catch up to the cart that is being transported by two men, but find out the chest is full of rocks. Back at the castle, the Sheriff congratulates Gisborne for successfully delivering the silver. Gisborne says that the spy must be his sergeant, since he was the only one to know about the fake plan.

Allan apologises on Tom’s behalf and promises to keep an eye on him. However, in the morning Tom and his friends have disappeared again, having stolen all of the outlaws’ things. They find Lucky George in the forest, but are surrounded by guards before they can rob him.

The gang finds out that Tom and his friends are going to be hanged. They argue over whether or not they should attempt to rescue them.

Robin goes to Knighton to speak with Marian. He explains the situation to her and expresses his worry that if he does not rescue Tom and the others, people will think he won’t be able to protect his men. Before he leaves, he tries to kiss her, but she stops him.

Marian meets with Gisborne, and he tells her about the spy he caught. She is horrified by the fact that an innocent man is being tortured.

Gisborne sees the necklace on Eleri, and questions her about where she got it. She reluctantly reveals that she got it from Robin Hood, and he realises that Marian is the real spy. Gisborne lets Lucky George keep the necklace.

Gisborne goes to tell the Sheriff about Marian being the spy. Lucky George comes up to them, and since they are in the dungeons, Tom is able to steal the necklace from his pocket.

Eleri tells Much that Gisborne took the necklace. Much relays the information to Robin, who realises Marian is in danger. He decides that they are first going to rescue Tom, and then warn Marian.

The outlaws are all ready to save Tom and his friends, but to their horror the Sheriff announces that he had the hanging an hour earlier. Allan is deeply upset by the sight of his brother’s dead body. Djaq drags him aside and tells a boy to go get Tom’s things.

Robin warns Marian about Gisborne and asks her to buy some time. He tells Will to find Allan and Djaq, and the others go find Lucky George in hopes of getting the necklace back.

Gisborne is already at Knighton when Marian arrives. He demands to see the necklace, and Marian heads to her room to try and fake a break-in.

Will finds Allan and Djaq. He stands aside as Djaq comforts Allan by telling him about her own brother. They go through Tom’s things, and find the necklace.

The other outlaws find Lucky George and find out that all of his money was under his coat. They demand to get the necklace, but George is surprised to find it missing. Will and Djaq catch up to the others and give Robin the necklace.

Gisborne walks into Marian’s room just as she is staging a robbery. She is almost about to tell him the truth, when Robin hands her the necklace through the window. She manages to convince Gisborne of her innocence, but he realises the danger she is in now that the Sheriff thinks she’s a spy. To prove her loyalty she is forced to accept Gisborne’s proposal, though she says that she will marry him once King Richard returns to England. Gisborne leaves the room, and Marian closes the window, apologising to Robin, who heard the whole conversation.

Robin officiates Eleri and her fiancé’s wedding in the forest.
